5 Positive Affirmations for When You are Drowning Under Work Stress

Life these days is not only hectic, but it is stressful too.

If I don’t make time for myself in the mornings to get grounded, I end up having a really haphazard day. Feeling like I am not in control of my day or my emotions and reactions.

And that is why it is so important to have a good ol’ pep talk with yourself before you start your day. And the best way to have this pep talk is by repeating positive affirmations that help you get motivated to be your best self at work and in life.

Here are the 5 Powerful Affirmations that can help you start the day with the right frame of mind and give you the much-needed boost to feel confident and inspired

“Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it.” - Charles R. Swindoll Life Transformation Coach. Mindset Mentor. Work-Life Balance. Confidence.

#1: I have complete control over the thoughts I have and the emotions I feel. Nobody but me decides how I feel.

It’s not what happens, but it’s how you react that matters. This is an empowering truth that reminds you that you are in control.

Yes, you cannot control the bad things from happening in life and at work, but you do have a say on how you respond to it. No matter what happens in the day, you get to choose your attitude. You get to define your character and your quality of life.

Reminding yourself of this responsibility and choice gives you the power to show up with a positive mentality and resiliency that allows you to rise above your work stressors.

#2: Things always work out for me. Things are always working out for me.

We often feel that life is not working out the way we want it to be. Especially when that morning alarm goes off and the dread of going to work creeps in.

At least that’s what happened to me. Until I started the practice of waking up and repeating these words: God is always with me, and things are always working out for me. I continue to repeat this every morning, even before checking my phone or thinking random thoughts.

I am not saying nothing goes wrong in my life. Many things go wrong. They do. But in the grand scheme of things, things work out in the end. And if you reflect on your life with a positive mindset, you will probably draw the same conclusion.

So even though we feel that nothing is working out. Over time, everything does work out as long as we keep pushing to make an effort to improve things.

So repeating to yourself every day that things always work out for you and looking for evidence for this statement throughout the day helps you stop focusing on what’s going wrong. And instead, you focus your attention on the things that are right in your life. And reminding yourself that though things may be challenging right now, it is only to prep and direct you towards your ideal life.

The greatest mistake a man can ever make is to be afraid of making one. - Elbert Hubbard. Life Transformation Coach. Mindset Mentor. Work-Life Balance. Confidence

#3: I’m human, and it’s okay to make mistakes!

A lot of our stress comes from the fear of failing or making mistakes at work. We believe that if we don’t do things perfectly or better than our competition, our reputation and value at work will be tarnished beyond repair. There is already so much pressure at work, and we build it up even more in our minds. I am guilty of thinking that if I mess up at my corporate job, the whole organization will fall apart! A silly presumption.

Mistakes at work and generally in life are an integral part of our learning process and actually helps us to learn and grow. Mistakes also create new opportunities for us while improving our resiliency. We have to stop equating our blunders with anxiety and shame. And tell ourselves it’s okay to make mistakes and necessary for personal growth.

Who is the person that punishes you the most when you make a mistake? Yup, you. So, if you really want to win at this game of life. You have to be kind to yourself and let yourself off the hook for your errors. Start telling yourself these 2 things every day, 1. I let go of fearing mistakes, I have survived my mistakes before, and I can survive the next one too! 2. I see mistakes as stepping stones helping me become a better version of myself.

Magic is believing in yourself, if you can do that, you can make anything happen. - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Life Transformation Coach. Mindset Mentor. Work-Life Balance. Confidence

#4: I accept and love myself fully. I believe in myself.

Truly an important and my favourite affirmation. When was the last time you stopped and gave yourself a thumbs up for who you are and what you do? Until I started repeating this affirmation, I don’t think I ever did. In fact, I think I did the complete opposite. I constantly compare myself to others and told myself that I was never good enough and had to push myself to be better and do more.

The first time I acknowledged myself and accepted myself with all my strengths and flaws, the comfort I felt is indescribable.

Believing in yourself is much more powerful than someone telling you that they believe in you.

But this belief and acceptance need to be nurtured. You have to set an intention to look out for yourself and prioritize your well-being. You have to talk to yourself kindly (immediately stop the habit of constantly criticizing yourself. You have to celebrate your strengths. You have to learn to forgive yourself. Every morning, you have to repeat and tell yourself that you fully accept and love yourself despite your weaknesses and faults.

Loving yourself is really the most incredible and the best thing you can do for yourself in the harsh reality that we live in today.

#5: I am so grateful for all that I already have.

Your day will look so much better if you look at it through the lens of gratitude. Happiness and gratitude are perfectly intertwined. Gratitude is the simplest and easiest way to shift out of our negative emotions because it pushes us to look and affirm the good things and people in our lives. It helps shift our focus from lack to abundance.

So start the day by feeling grateful for all you have in your life and come up with 3 things or people you are thankful to have in your life.

Final thoughts.

There is a lot of debate on whether or not repeating self-affirming phrases can actually improve your life and well-being. My take on this debate is simple:

If you are generally a positive person, repeating these affirmations will strengthen your outlook on your work and life. However, if you are a person that does not have positive feelings about themselves or their work and life, then repeating these affirmations may not be enough.

If you have a negative self-image, you have to repeat these positive affirmations and take action to prove what you are repeating and saying is true. And the most vital step is to stay vigilant and aware of the negative chatter, pushing back on the negative self-talk, and continue replacing it with a positive affirmation.
